To the North

Early this year we went on a road trip all the way around the North Island (of NZ). This blog is a way of sharing those adventures, and our pictures.

My name’s Sharyn, and I’m 30. I live in a rather lovely art deco apartment, with my best bud Simona. i have a job i love and i am learning to make a home here in sydney. In my spare time, I like to read books (historical novels and science fantasy mostly - I know - honestly), read poetry, write, watch TV on DVD, and knit and I'm learning to sew. It keeps me busy. I'm a bit of a scavenger and a collector and I love the every-day-ness of my life.

We depart

We finally leave Christchurch in the afternoon, and drive to Kaikoura to stay with Simona's family for one night.

We are TERRIBLY excited, and cannot BELIEVE it is finally happening. We have planned and dreamed this holiday for over a year, and it has arrived.

Excitement uncontainable.

The next day we leave and drive up to Picton, where we stay in a cute little cabin. We have communion on the floor, and Sharyn plays guitar. The car starts to worry us though, it begins to shake alarmingly, and finally we call the AA. We are very worried and upset, although we try to remain calm. We toss around words like 'suspension' and 'drive shaft'.

We don't know what we are talking about.

It turns out to be a bubble in the rear tyre, and after a drunk AA man changes it for $75 we are on our way. Early start...catch the ferry in the morning.

Outside our cute little cabin.
